Narrative Description of Project:
The project objective is to develop a community enterprise utilising locally produced coal dust to manufacture coal cakes for cooking and heating that will help both to generate income and save energy costs for income and environment-poor rural communities in coal bearing areas of Balochistan, Pakistan. Present fuel use patterns are also highly detrimental to the endangered mountain juniper and pistachio in this desert area of Balochistan.
Activities to date have included:
o Establishment of household energy requirements including cooking techniques.
o Trialling of various coal cake recipes.
o Design and construction of prototype stoves
o Performance testing and combustion testing.
o Household surveys before and after initial trials.
